19.5 Student Progress

Student Progress tool allows viewing and tracking the progress made by students within a certain course. Progress can be viewed in two different ways:

- as Course view (allows to view one grade book column)

- as Comparison view (allows to compare two or more grade book columns).

 

The tool can be accessed either from SharePointLMS front page or from a certain course tool menu.

 

To access Student Progress from Courses page,

 

1. Select Student Progress in the Site Actions menu.

2. Select a course you want to manage.

3. Choose between Course view and Comparison view.

To access student progress from a course tool menu:

1. Click Student Progress menu item in the Grade Book toolbar.

2. Choose between Course view and Comparison view.

 

19.5.1 Course view

1. Select a course.

2. In the Grade book column tab click Change column to select a column you want to view.

3. In the Select grade book column dialog box choose a column by pressing the corresponding radio button. Click OK.

The following page will appear:

Each dot is a student’s grade shown in a scheme comparing the students’ grade to the standard deviation formula.

Each dot is clickable.

NOTE:

Vertical line specifies the number of students. Horizontal line specifies the grade.

 


Teacher can:

- see a student’s name. To view the name click the corresponding dot

- see student profile (info is taken from AD). To do this click the student’s name.

To view additional information about the learner navigate to the button next to the learner’s photo and click the arrow.

In the drop-down menu choose one of the following options:

· Schedule a Meeting – to schedule a meeting with the learner;

· Send Mail – to send an e-mail to the learner;

· Additional Actions – to perform extra actions;

· Add to Outlook Contacts – to add the learner to your Outlook contacts;

· Outlook Properties – to view the learner’s e-mail properties.

19.5.2 Comparison view

 

1. Select a course.

2. In the Grade book column tab click Change column to select columns you want to compare.

3. In the Select grade book column dialog box choose a column by pressing the corresponding radio button. Click OK.

4. Drag the mouse to select Group A students. A rectangle will appear.

5. Drag the mouse again to select Group B students. Another rectangle will appear.

 

NOTE:

1. Vertical line specifies the number of students. Horizontal line specifies the grade.

2. The selection can be redone.

The view can be changed to:

- Alpha (students’ names),

- Numeric (the number of students)

- Graph as shown in the example below.

If you want to send the view by e-mail to students:

1. Click E-mail.

In the Send E-mail dialog box fill in the fields as required:

- To – specify the name of the student (s);

- Subject – specify the subject of the message;

- Message – type the text of the message;

- File – attach a file to the message (optional);

- Check the Attach Chart image box to send the chart image to the student.

 

2. Click Send to send the message. Click Cancel to discard changes.
